Come for: the ribs and service This place is unassuming and sits along a tree-lined portion of Falls road. I was greeted upon entering, and the staff was incredibly friendly. They somehow made a five minute experience feel like walking into a friend's house. I ordered a half rack of sauced ribs and a side of macaroni and cheese. The ribs were tender and the sauce was the perfect combination of smoky, tangy and sweet. I found it well balanced--complementing the meat without overpowering. The sheer quantity I received for $13 is astounding and was enough for 2 meals. The macaroni and cheese was softer than I prefer and somewhat bland. Like the ribs, the mac was served piping hot. I will be back for more ribs and to try the other grilled proteins--perhaps as a sandwich.

Our first taste of Jake's was at the state fair last summer and we wanted to try the restaurant because the sandwich was so good. We decided to take the 40 minute drive to see the grill and we're glad we did. It's not much to look at but usually the best food comes from no frills restaurants. When we came in the cashier could tell it was our first time and gave us quick orientation. BEST pit beef I've ever had. I ordered mine rare and it was tender and smoky. We also ordered Mac and cheese which was awesome and Cole slaw. Slaw was just ok but the Mac and cheese was hot and cheesy. We sat to take it all in and watched numerous customers come and go and be very happy they did. The people sitting around us were friendly and talkative. Felt like we made new friends over BBQ. It's not the post beautiful place but the food is great and people are warm and friendly. Worth the drive.

OK Jake's might be coming for Chap's. Stopped here for lunch on my way to a winery so I can have some bbq with my pinot and I was so glad my homegirl thought to do this! I got a whole rack of ribs, 2 sausages, and pit beef sandwich, mac and chees, chips and a drink and just barely cracked $40. sausages came with peppers and onions and throw on some tiger sauce I was in heave. Got the ribs with sauce on the side so i could see what they were hitting on and whew chile so good and tender I never ended up using the sauce. Pit beef was nice and mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy. this place is small so during colder months you might be taking your order to enjoy at home but everyone is there is super friendly, I left with carnations and a smile. Def stop into this place on your way to a winery because you'll be the fav when you bring for real food and everyone else brought charcuterie

Best pit beef ! When you see Construction workers packing this lot you know the food is great. Staff is great too!!

I walked in for the first time this morning around 11 AM. Everything was pretty straight forward. The board said BEEF $10 so I ordered a pit beef sandwich rare. A couple mins later I was handed a wrapped sandwich. The toppings and sauces are on the counter right there, so I opened up the wrapping and added some raw onions and squirted on some tiger sauce. Perfect. Got a large orange soda in a bottle. Total cost with tax was $12.72. I paid cash but they do take credit cards. The staff was friendly and helpful. No issues. I ate the sandwich outside at one of the charming tables under the shade trees to the north end of the small lot. The sandwich bite was not as tender as I hoped - not as tender as Pioneer. Maybe it wasn't sliced as thin? Not sure why. Also, the flavor was a bit lacking. I think Pioneer dry brines their beef. Also, the sandwich was not nearly as juicy as Pioneer. No juice dripping on the wrap or my shirt. I ordered a rare and there was plenty of very pink rare meat in there but there was also medium to medium well in the sandwich. There was also a bit of bark from the beef which was tough, but that's to be expected. The thing about pit beef is you're supposed to taste the pit, so I appreciate the effort of adding bark. The kaiser bun was soft and fresh. It was a large bun, but it barely held the massive amount of beef in the sandwich. I will guess it had a half pound of beef in it! Very nice. Since the beef wasn't dry brined, I should have added salt to the sandwich at the counter. My bad. I've been to four pit beef places (Pioneer, Jake's, Smoky's, and The Canopy, and Jake's comes in at a strong second - not quite as good as Pioneer, but some of the other things (ambiance, inside tables, outside tables, open pit right in front with lots of smoke) are positive notes. Also notable is that Jake's Grill was listed in a Washington Post article in 2019 as one of the 11 best Baltimore Pit Beef places in the region, which is to say, in the world. My point of reference is Pioneer. I have to give Pioneer an edge for a number of reasons, although I love the ambiance of Jake's. I think the current ratings are reasonable which is 4.6 for Jake's and 4.7 for Pioneer. I think 4.6 is fair for Jake's. So I will round up to five stars.

Omg!! Amazing Grill! This place is so "down to earth" great barbecue!! The ham is not salty and so sweet. The turkey usually isn't my favorite, but I'm in love with her turkey. And the roast beef well as my husband says the best place in and out of town!!

Some of the best barbecue I've had in a while! Great price for quality ribs! This was the perfect Father's Day dinner for my husband. The place was super busy so thankfully we ordered ahead. You can tell folks love the food by how crowded it was on a nice Sunday. Even thought the staff were incredibly busy, they were polite and attentive. We ordered ribs and coleslaw, wanted to try the Mac but it was sold out. Adults and children loved the ribs, they were absolutely delicious. The food was so good that I forgot to take pics! We ordered to-go but there is outside picnic table style seating. There is also indoor seating. Parking is VERY limited. I look forward to returning.

Been going to Jake's for years and before that Shorty's (Jake's Dad) at old location. Stopped by on a Saturday for a pit beef Sammy. Ordered rare and that puppy was in my hands in 30 seconds. Grabbed some onions and their tiger sauce and drove home to eat. It was delicious & a huge portion and under $9. Normal people could almost split it but of course I devoured the whole thing w some chips. The guys who work here are awesome and have the whole process down to a science. Nice people to boot. I am a fan of their ribs and their in house bbq sauce too. I do not get there often since trying to cut back on red meat but when I need pit beef, this is my spot.

OK so parking was a bit challenging...but man was the food worth it. Had the pit beef sammy with coleslaw. The condiments on hand are real fresh, the horseradish is the real deal. All the other meats are smoked and the ribs are amazeballs. Oh and my pit beef sammy was $8...there was at least $15 worth of amazi g beef on that sammy. In n out real fast. A few tables inside & a few picnic tables outside. Sorry no pics, i was very hungry!

My friend took me here for a quick bite because they thought the BBQ here was good. I don't disagree. The ambiance is pretty much what you see...a small side-of-the-road operation with a simple menu: BBQ and appropriate sides. The inside is small and has minimal seating howver, there are tables and seating along the parking lot outside. The weather was great and there were no bugs out yet so this made the perfect spot to eat. The service and ordering is straight forward...just go to the counter, see the menu , order and pay. The food is bagged and handed to you when it's ready. Simple and easy. We ordered a full rack of ribs with 2 sausages. Potato chips and drinks were also purchased. I like that the rack came cut as single bones - this made it easier to share and eat. The sausages come on a bun with grilled onion and bell pepper - you add your own sauce. Overall, it was a good meal. I would definitely consider dining here again or ordering takeout.
